Silvana Delgado Andrade, PhD

Astrophysicist | Science Communicator | Educator

I am an Ecuadorian astrophysicist and physics lecturer at Wharton County Junior College. My research focuses on understanding the growth and evolution of massive galaxies through their dynamics. In particular, I study the stellar motions of galaxies to measure their supermassive black holes, stellar mass distributions, and dark matter content. I recently earned my Ph.D. in Astronomy from Texas A&M University.

I am passionate about creating pathways for young people, especially Latin American students, to see themselves in science. Astronomy is, in my opinion, the coolest science in the world, and I believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience it! I am involved in both national and international outreach projects, including efforts to strengthen astronomy education in Ecuador and collaborate with the Texas A&M University Physics and Astronomy outreach team.

Outside of science, I love going rock climbing and exploring new places. I especially enjoy connecting with people and learning from different cultures. Much of my free time is spent traveling in my home country, Ecuador, and finding new ways to bring astronomy closer to the communities that shaped me.

About Me

I am a passionate designer and fashion lover. In my free time, I spend a lot of time writing, shopping and cuddling my cat.
